The dream of this foundation is to enhance the educational experience of our students by providing resources beyond that of the normal operations of the school system. With a STREAM- Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math focus in our hearts, we launched with a generous donation from Nissan.
Nissan contributed to our cause by donating a van to transport our resources. Our Franklin County Education Foundation for Excellence began making purchases to stock the van with educational resources. We were able to purchase a wide variety of innovative and creative tools such as Ozobots, Spheros, Electronic Snap Circuit sets, Coding kits, Straw Rocket Launchers, Drones, Balloon Car kits, DIY microscopes, to name a few.
In addition to these items, our foundation also purchased many consumables to be used in various STEM activities. The van allowed for every classroom in all eight of our Franklin County Elementary Schools to utilize the newly purchased equipment. Throughout the year, we saw to it that consumables were replenished, classroom sets of instruments were increased, and new resources were added each semester.
In an effort to increase family involvement we partnered with our elementary schools to fund STEM and Art events. The elementary schools hosted STEM and Art nights where their students and families could share in the experiences that STREAM can provide. In 2019, Franklin County broke ground on building two new middle schools that were to be equipped with STEM labs. In an effort to enhance and enlarge STEM education in grades 6-8, our Education Foundation donated funds to each of the three middle schools.
The middle schools made purchases such as 3-D printers and kits/materials for building and demonstrating science concepts and problem solving. In 2018 and 2019, our Foundation supported the school system by providing funds to assist with the Summer STREAM Camp. These camps served our 1-12 grade students by providing them with many opportunities to engage in a preponderance of STREAM activities, access to high quality guest speakers, STEM instruction, and field trips to see real world STREAM in action.
Our foundation is also happy to help other facets of the Franklin County School System, for example, monies were given to The Campora Family Resource Center to assist them in their action team building endeavors. This project reached secondary students, grades 8-12. As the Franklin County Education Foundation for Excellence, we strive to touch each of our students, grades K-12 with our STREAM focus and funds.
